ANC members in Mpumalanga have been ordered to shut up or face expulsion for taking their frustrations to social and mainstream media. This order is contained in the resolutions delegates made at the ANC’s provincial general council (PGC) last weekend.

Premier David Mabuza who is aiming for a third term have been accused by rivals that his leadership has been factional and corrosive to the democratic principles of the party. These members have been slamming the ANC leadership, particularly Mabuza, on Facebook.

They even went ahead to launch 'Operation Save Mpumalanga ANC', which is a political attempt to prevent Premier David Mabuza from being elected to another term as provincial ANC chairperson. It was reportedly in reponse of this that the order was issued.

They blame his leardership for the deteriorating state of the party in the province and the disunity and bad blood between the SA Communist Party and ANC leadership, which led to bloody violence between the parties’ members at KaNyamazane in January.

The proponents of this third-term resolutions forces members to abide by it – whether they like it or not – when the elective provincial conference sits in October. This also forecloses the space for any challenger to the position.
Do you think that this is in order, bearing in mind that South Africa is a free country. Is it not an infringement of the rights of members who by extension are South Africans?....Drop your comments.
