The University of Cape Town (UCT) Vice Chancellor Max Price announced on Wednesday(8th April) evening that the statue of Rhodes will finally be moved.
This is coming after almost a month of students' protests, sit-ins and meetings of the council.
The Rhodes Must Fall protests gained popularity in March after UCT students threw faeces on the statue, situated on UCT’s upper campus, protesting against colonial dominance.
Students gathered at UCT waiting for the university council's ruling on whether the statue would remain or be removed.
The council then later in a press conference, announced that the statue would be removed on Thursday(9th April) after angered protesting students, had blocked council members from leaving the meeting as they wanted the matter resolved.
After the announcement was made, there was calm and council members were then allowed to leave.
