A second Cape Town teenager has been stopped from joining the Islamic State terrorist group, State Security Minister David Mahlobo said.

The SA State security Minister has said Tuesday that security services had stopped another teenager at the Cape Town International Airport last month following a tip-off. The minister added that helpful information got from the first teenager that had been stopped from boarding a plane to join the terror group.

According to reports, the two teens are friends and had planned to leave the country within 10 days of each other.

The minister expressed his happiness that his department had acted before the situation escalated.

"The nice thing is that we are acting before these things happen," he was quoted as saying by the report.

"There are certain communities that are being targeted," he added but did not elaborate on this.

The director-general for state security, Sonto Kudjoe, said that the department knew "for sure" that the IS terror group was using cyberspace to recruit youngsters but that the department was also looking into a possibility that the terrorists had recruiters in the country.
