The much anticipated Democratic Alliance (DA) is coming up this weekend. About a thousand delegates will be in attendance with one responsibility to elect either of these two men as the Federal Chairperson of the party. The successful candidate would take over from Helen Zille who is the current leader of the party.
Mmusi Maimane, a Deputy Federal chairperson of Democratic Alliance(DA) and also the current Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa since May 29, 2014. He is also the former leader of the Democratic Alliance in the Johannesburg City Council and the former Democratic Alliance National Spokesperson. He is a graduate of University of South Africa (BA Psychology), the University of the Witwatersrand (Masters in Public Administration), and the University of Wales (Masters in Theology). Maimane, 35, whose sudden rise in his political career kept many observers amazed would have to prove his onions this time.
He is contesting against the 62 years old academic-turned politician, Professor Wilmot Godfrey James. The Professor who graduated from the University of the Western Cape in 1977, is also a Member of Parliament. He has served as director of Sanlam, Media24 and the Africa Genome Education Institute, and is the chairperson of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Immigration Advisory Board of South Africa. He is also a former Trustee of the Ford Foundation of New York.
These are the two major candidates DA delegates will be voting to lead the party after Helen Zille's exit. In my inquisitive nature, am eager to know who will take the race.
