The image as you can see showed two officers putting bread into a police car. The officers were responding at the scene of an accident on the intersection of the N1 freeway and Samrand Road this morning, where an Albany Bakery truck had overturned.
In a statement, Tshwane Metro police said, “Seven officers responded to the accident. They did not steal bread from the truck, but managed to secure the scene and ensured that free-flow of traffic was facilitated.”
“The supervisor from the bakery arrived on the scene and realised that the officers assisted to ensure that the overturned truck was not looted, the statement read.
“He then, by his own admission, gave the officers a few loaves of bread as a ‘thank you’ gesture.”
The statement said, although the department is proud of the work done by the officers, as confirmed by the bakery supervisor, “The officers will be issued with first written warnings and advised not to accept ‘gifts’ without declaring them, even if it is for good work done.”
