The group had applied for permission to march on Wednesday, and it had been granted.
But after they had gathered on Wednesday morning, police cancelled the march, citing an imminent threat to the group.
The irate marchers who gathered in the street, however had their path was blocked by riot police official who used teargas and water cannons as the group progressed towards them.
