Paramedics have said that a man and his two daughters were killed in an accident on a freeway near Johannesburg on Sunday.
Emergency workers arrived on the scene at around 03.00 and found the mangled remains of two cars, said the spokesperson.
The three were trapped in the car.
"On further inspection they found that an adult and two children, believed to be under the age of ten, were killed in the collision," he said.
The remains were removed from the vehicle and declared dead on the scene.
"The driver, believed to be the only occupant of the other vehicle, was found hanging from the driver’s door of his vehicle. He was in a critical condition."
Paramedics removed him from the car and treated him for multiple injuries. He was then transported to the Hospital for further treatment.
They noted that the exact cause of the collision is not yet known, it is understood from a bystander that one of the vehicles started drifting into oncoming traffic.
