ESKOM has announced it will implement stage two load shedding from 10am and it’s likely to continue until 10pm.
The firm says the power cut is due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages. It informed that this is a measure to protect the power system from a complete blackout.
Customers have hence been urged to reduce the load on the electricity grid by switching off all non-essential appliances.
The power utility had announced on Friday, that the top 20 defaulting municipalities would have electricity disruptions from June because they were in arrears of more than 30 days.

Eskom said it was owed around R 4,6 billion by these municipalities; and this was in line with government’s call for municipalities to ‘cough up’.
They also insisted that if the power cuts go ahead, defaulting municipalities should expect blackouts for up to eight hours a day.
